Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between Standard and Professional?
Standard covers everyday business diagrams – flowcharts, org charts, mind maps, basic network diagrams and Gantt charts. Professional adds the Software, Engineering and Database templates (UML, BPMN, ERD, floor plans, racks), data linking and teamwork.
Does Visio 2021 still receive updates?
No. Support for Visio 2021 ended on 13 October 2026, and Microsoft no longer releases security or other updates for it. The licence is perpetual and needs no subscription.
How do I activate the licence?
In Visio, open File > Account, select Switch License under Product Information and choose Enter product key instead. The full procedure is on the Instructions tab.
Which languages are available?
Microsoft's official installer is available in English, Czech, Slovak, Polish and Hungarian, among others.
How many PCs does the licence cover?
The licence is for 1 PC and has no expiry date. It is a pre-owned (previously used) licence that cannot be transferred to another device.
Which systems does Visio 2021 run on?
Microsoft lists Windows 11, Windows 10 LTSC 2019 and 2021, and Windows Server 2019, 2022 and 2025. The PC needs at least a 1.1 GHz dual-core processor and 4 GB RAM.

Installation and activation
- Download the official installation file (IMG, about 5 GB) for your edition – Visio Professional 2021 or Visio Standard 2021 – from the link below.
- Double-click the downloaded file so that Windows mounts it as a virtual drive, run Setup from that drive and wait for the installation to finish.
- Start Visio and open File > Account.
- Under Product Information, select Switch License and then Enter product key instead.
- Paste the 25-character licence key from the e-mail, select Install this product instead and follow the on-screen instructions.
- Close all Office apps, start Visio again and check in File > Account that the product is activated.
