What is the difference between Standard and Professional?
Standard includes templates and shapes for everyday business diagrams, organisation charts, mind maps and basic network diagrams. Professional includes everything in Standard and adds IT, software and engineering diagrams (Azure, AWS, UML, BPMN, P&ID) plus linking diagrams to live data.
Is this a subscription?
No. Visio 2024 is a one-time licence for one user and one PC. Microsoft supports it until October 2029.
How do I activate the licence?
Sign in with your Microsoft account at setup.office.com and enter the product key from the e-mail. Then download Visio from your account and install it – see the Instructions tab for the steps.
Can I move Visio to a new PC?
Yes. On the new PC, sign in with the same Microsoft account that Visio is linked to and install it from there; the licence always covers one PC.
Does Visio work alongside Microsoft 365 or Office?
Visio is sold as a standalone app and is not part of Microsoft 365. It must, however, use the same bit version (32-bit or 64-bit) as the Office installed on your PC.
Which language can I install Visio in?
You choose the language and bit version when downloading from your Microsoft account, via the Other options link.

Installation and activation
- Copy the 25-character product key from the e-mail we sent you.
- Go to setup.office.com (link below), sign in with an existing or new Microsoft account and enter the product key. This permanently links Visio to your account and you will no longer need the key.
- Sign in with the same account at microsoft365.com, open the list of your products (Services & subscriptions at account.microsoft.com) and select Install next to Visio 2024. To choose another language or bit version, use Other options.
- Run the downloaded OfficeSetup.exe file, select Yes at the User Account Control prompt and wait for the message that the installation is complete.
- Open Visio from the Start menu and accept the licence agreement – the app activates automatically. If the Activation Wizard appears, complete its steps.
- You can find your licence at any time in your Microsoft account at account.microsoft.com, where you can download Visio again.
