​  Which version is the licence for?
The licence key is valid for the version of the variant you choose: Workstation 16 Pro, 17 Pro or 17.5 Pro. Updates within a major version (e.g. 17.0.1 or 17.0.2) are free; moving to a new major version (e.g. from 16 to 17) requires a new licence.
​  On how many computers can I use it?
For commercial (business) use, one licence covers one computer. For non-commercial use, VMware's licence terms allow installation on up to 3 computers. The key works on Windows and Linux, but not on both at the same time.
​  How do I activate the licence key?
On Windows, start Workstation Pro, choose Help > Enter License Key, paste the 25-character key and click OK. On Linux, close Workstation, type vmware in a terminal and enter the key in the dialog that opens. See the Instructions tab for the full procedure.
​  Do I need a key for the latest version?
No. Since version 17.6.2 (December 2024), the vendor offers Workstation Pro without a licence key for commercial, educational and personal use. The licence key is used to activate versions 16 Pro, 17 Pro and 17.5 Pro.
​  Does the licence include Workstation Player?
Yes. Under VMware's licence terms, Workstation Pro includes VMware Workstation Player, which you may use on the same computer.
​  What language is the application in?
Workstation Pro is available in English and, on Windows, also in Japanese.
