Frequently asked questions
How do I activate the key?
On McAfee's official activation page, click Enter product key, paste the key from your e-mail and sign in or create a McAfee account. Then follow the on-screen steps to download and install the app. See the Instructions tab for the full procedure.
How many devices does the licence cover?
As many as the version you choose covers (1, 3, 5, 10 or unlimited). According to McAfee, the unlimited version covers household devices that you own and use for personal, non-commercial purposes.
How does it differ from McAfee Total Protection?
AntiVirus Plus focuses on antivirus and web protection. Total Protection adds, for example, identity monitoring and Secure VPN.
Do I have to enter a payment card during activation?
No. During activation McAfee offers to turn on auto-renewal, which requires a card, but you can skip this step by clicking No Thanks. However, McAfee makes some extra benefits available only with auto-renewal turned on.
Can I use the key more than once?
A product key can be redeemed only once. To install the app on other devices, sign in to My Account on the McAfee website and download it from there.
How can I tell that protection is active?
On Windows, right-click the McAfee icon in the taskbar near the clock and select Verify Subscription. You can also check your subscription status after signing in to My Account.

Installation and activation
- Open McAfee's official activation page (link below) and click Enter product key.
- Paste the licence key from your e-mail and enter your e-mail address. If you don't have a McAfee account yet, one will be created for this address; McAfee will e-mail you a 6-digit one-time passcode to verify it.
- McAfee will offer to turn on auto-renewal, which requires a payment card. It is optional – if you don't want it, click No Thanks.
- Follow the on-screen steps to download and install the McAfee app. To install it on other devices, sign in to My Account on the McAfee website – McAfee will also e-mail you a download link.
- On phones and tablets, install the McAfee Security app from Google Play or the App Store and sign in with the same McAfee account.
- To check activation on Windows, right-click the McAfee icon in the taskbar (bottom right, near the clock) and select Verify Subscription. You can also see your subscription status in My Account.
