Frequently asked questions
How do I activate the key?
On McAfee's official activation page, click Enter product key, paste the key from your e-mail and sign in or create a McAfee account. Then follow the on-screen steps to download and install the app. See the Instructions tab for the full procedure.
How many devices does the licence cover?
As many as the version you choose covers (1, 3, 5, 10 or unlimited). According to McAfee, the unlimited version covers household devices that you own and use for personal, non-commercial purposes.
Is the VPN unlimited?
According to McAfee, Secure VPN data is limited to 500 MB a month without auto-renewal; you get unlimited data once auto-renewal is turned on. The Total Protection Plus Safe Connect VPN version also includes McAfee Safe Connect VPN.
Do I have to enter a payment card during activation?
No. During activation McAfee offers to turn on auto-renewal, which requires a card, but you can skip this step by clicking No Thanks. However, McAfee makes some extra benefits, such as unlimited VPN data, extended identity monitoring and the Virus Protection Pledge, available only with auto-renewal turned on.
Does it include parental controls?
Yes. According to McAfee, McAfee Safe Family is included with Total Protection for 10 devices. It helps children on Windows PCs and Android and iOS devices build good habits, lets you manage their app usage and time online, and can show you where they are.
What happens when the subscription expires?
According to McAfee, protection is deactivated and the software stops receiving updates once the subscription ends, so make sure you get a new key in time.

Installation and activation
- Open McAfee's official activation page (link below) and click Enter product key.
- Paste the licence key from your e-mail and enter your e-mail address. If you don't have a McAfee account yet, one will be created for this address; McAfee will e-mail you a 6-digit one-time passcode to verify it.
- McAfee will offer to turn on auto-renewal, which requires a payment card. It is optional – if you don't want it, click No Thanks.
- Follow the on-screen steps to download and install the McAfee app. To install it on other devices, sign in to My Account on the McAfee website – McAfee will also e-mail you a download link.
- On phones and tablets, install the McAfee Security app from Google Play or the App Store and sign in with the same McAfee account.
- To check activation on Windows, right-click the McAfee icon in the taskbar (bottom right, near the clock) and select Verify Subscription. You can also see your subscription status in My Account.
