Installation and activation
- Sign in to the Broadcom Support Portal (support.broadcom.com) and under My Downloads download the ESXi 8 and vCenter Server Appliance 8 installation ISOs. Downloading requires an account entitled to the product.
- Check that your servers meet the ESXi 8 requirements and are listed in the Broadcom Compatibility Guide, then install ESXi from the ISO (CD/DVD, USB or network boot).
- On a Windows, Linux or macOS computer in the same network, run the vCenter Server GUI installer and deploy the appliance in two stages: OVA deployment and setup (time synchronisation, vCenter Single Sign-On).
- Log in to the vSphere Client, add the ESXi hosts to the inventory, then in Administration > Licensing > Licenses click ADD, enter the licence key and complete the wizard.
- Select the host, choose Configure > System > Licensing > Assign License, select the vSphere 8 Standard licence and click OK.
- In the same place, check that the licence is assigned to the host and that it no longer runs in evaluation mode.
