Is Office 2016 still supported?
No. Microsoft ended support for Office 2016 on 14 October 2025 and no longer releases fixes or security updates. The apps may keep working, but Microsoft warns of security risks and recommends moving to a newer version of Office.

Installation and activation
- Go to setup.office.com, sign in with your Microsoft account (or create one for free) and enter the product key from the e-mail. Redeeming the key links Office to your account – you only need to do this once.
- Go to your Microsoft account dashboard (account.microsoft.com) and sign in with the same account. On the Overview page select Office apps, choose Install next to Office 2016 and, if needed, pick another language or the 64-bit version from the drop-down list.
- On a PC, run the downloaded file and confirm the User Account Control prompt. Installation is finished when a message says Office is installed; then select Close.
- On a Mac, open the Downloads folder in Finder, double-click the installer package and follow the installer; finally enter your Mac login password.
- Open Word or Excel and accept the licence terms – Office usually activates automatically. If the Microsoft Office Activation Wizard appears, follow its prompts.
- Editions that are not linked to a Microsoft account (for example Professional Plus) are activated with the key directly in the app: open File > Account and choose Change Product Key under Product Information.
